Why Adopt instead of Shop?
There are hundreds of reasons why adopting is better instead of shopping for an animal. The main reason that sticks out is that you are SAVING a life. With millions of animals in shelters and millions euthanized, adopting brings you one step closer to bringing those numbers down.
The battle against puppy mills is another reason to adopt. Many dogs are kept under horrifying conditions just to give another puppy to another person. Puppy mills do not care about the health of the dog, only the money that they will get out of selling the puppy. But what if you want a puppy? Is your only option to go to a puppy mill? NO! Many shelters carry puppies and if you look hard enough, I am sure there is a shelter puppy out there that suits your wants.
Another crucial factor that proves that adopting is beneficial is the fact that it can reduce population. By adopting, we decrease the demand for “new dogs” and help eliminate the puppy mills. Adopting also helps the No-Kill Movement which aims to put a stop to merciless animal killing. You are able to show your support for that movement through adopting an animal.
Adopting a dog is also helping the shelter that you are adopting from. While adopting the dog is helping the dog, it is also opening up a spot for another homeless dog to find home in the shelter. It’s a win-win! Adopt a dog and save another.
Whether it’s making room for a homeless animal, battling against puppy mills, or supporting the No-Kill Movement, adoption is and always will be the most helpful thing you can do for animals. While showing your support for adopting an animal, you are helping millions of animals be saved.
